Your Job as an Artist is to Show Up

Your job as an artist is to show up

Love Wonderful, Creative You:

Nosotros have been talking this year about creative goals, and at dissimilar intervals, I've been checking in with you about mine. I'm happy to report that I've been pretty faithful to my goals, and I want to share how. In my experience, what actually helps folks achieve creative goals is to recall this: Your job as an creative person is to show up. Nothing else.

I believe I originally learned virtually "but showing upwardly" from Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way. The idea is that yous tin can't start or complete a projection when you lot're overcome past the pressure of perfectionism. Pressure leads to paralysis. Requite yourself permission to let become of expectations – your just chore is to show up and create something.

In my experience, the more than you commit to just evidence upwards, the less you judge your work, and the more than likely yous are to produce more than and savor the process and the product. This thought holds true for starting a new art journal page, writing a vocal, choreographing a trip the light fantastic toe, and for other creative goals also. You want to get to more museums? Just show upward and practice information technology. You desire to acquire to depict? Practice it. You want to incorporate writing into journal pages? Do it. Cease hesitating, questioning, hemming, doubting, and start doing. (Need some guidance to get started? You might similar my e-grade: Art Journaling 101.)

My Artistic Goals

So what take I been just showing up to do? The big creative goal I've been focused on in 2022 is showing more of my fine art. I've entered 3 fine art shows this yr, been accepted in ii, and am waiting to hear about the third. I confess that I observe shooting gallery- type photos, filling out entry forms, and paying gallery entry fees hateful, merely I'm committed to showing my work, and so I'm doing it. I'm glad, because I'thousand coming together more artists in my customs and seeing some pretty astonishing local art.

It's funny how things come together too, because I'm also very happy to share that I was approached past HeART Journal magazine to exercise an interview for their May/June event.
